We are saddened to learn of the loss of former NFA President, Minnesota State University Mankato professor, and decades-long educator, coach, mentor and friend, Larry Schnoor.
Larry was a devoted advocate for NFA, for the students and coaches in our membership, and served as our President from 1995-2015. He was the face at the ballot table giving reassurance and support between rounds, laughing with fellow coaches outside once ballots were out, and reading names with the perfect blend of gusto and gravitas at awards. He expected excellence from his membership, and used every tool at his disposal – humor, support, encouragement, and sometimes “the tone” – to reinforce his belief that we could all do better for the sake of this remarkable organization and the larger activity.
Our thoughts are with the people who were closest to him – his wife, Barbara, his children and grandchildren and the students he mentored and loved. We all have our Larry stories and would love for you all to share them in the comments of our social pages (Facebook or Instagram) so his family can see what an extraordinary impact he had on the shaping of this activity and the people who learned from him.
A celebration of Larry’s life will take place in Mankato on Saturday, October 5, 2024. More information can be found here.
